Let’s start with some big names in world cricket that have been banned from bowling after their actions were considered illegal
First up we have Pakistan legend Mohammed Hafeez was suspended twice in 2016 and then reinstated after he rectified the arm extension and passed a test then in 2017 again after he reverted to the supposed illegal action against Sri Lanka
Next up we have Saeed Ajmal , my personal favourite off-spinner. He was banned in 2014 at a time that the magician had been on a rampage and ranked as the the number 1 ODI bowler.
To make the list short we have our very own Prosper Utseya. He was tested in Cardiff after a series against South Africa back in 2014.
Victor Chirwa is the latest inductee into this not so pleasant group and less than 2 years since Roy Kaia was banned from bowling for similar reasons. Victor Chirwa picked up 2 wickets in the first match only leaking 11 runs which is quite impressive in any one day match. The young bowler can apply to be retested and reinstated as an international bowler if the committee is convinced his bowling action has changed for the better. So how is one considered to have bowled an illegal delivery or a legal delivery for that matter.

So naturally when delivering a ball in cricket the arm will bend and then straighten as the ball is delivered. For a legal delivery the flex between the bent arm and the straightened arm must be less than 15 degrees anything more would be considered to be an unfair advantage to the bowler over the batter since they can put more revolutions on the ball and more revolutions would mean more spin and movement. To be honest it is really an unfair advantage. The real question is are there any structures in place to help bowlers understand a lot of these rules concerning what is right and what is wrong.
After all is said and done , we have a young cricketer devastated and probably thinking it’s over for him and that should never be the case . Not much can be done about that though. Muttiah Muralitharan had an illustrious career and up to this day is still considered to have been chucking (throwing rather than bowling) by a lot of analysts, true or not he boasts 800 wickets in test matches which is pretty impressive. It’s understandable when you ban Mohammed Hafeez because he’s been around long enough to take it. For a young man like Victor , I can only imagine how he must be feeling. Tell us what you think about the illegal actions and the reasons surrounding them.
